Our Vision
Victory is in the Fight
We are dedicated to the fight! We are a 501c3 Non-Profit organization determined to follow the legacy of General Baker and others like him to transform fighters into thinkers and thinkers into fighters. Our approach is focuses on what we consider the pillars of movement building: - Political Education, Arts and Culture, Projects of Survival, and Internationalism.
The General Baker Institute is dedicated to providing educational courses, programs and activities for the community, and especially young people. GBI will study the revolutionary life and contributions of General Gordon Baker, Jr., (September 6, 1941 - May 18, 2014) and will make widely known the human rights struggles he waged, the organizations he co-founded; and guided, and his indefatigable passion for the dialectics of continuing education and praxis. The General Baker Institute is a center for teaching about the history of Detroit and Highland Park and critically exploring their intersection with global transformative movements. GBI will also examine contemporary issues and social movements and work to develop and disseminate educational materials and programs.
